Professional wrestling is a beautiful thing, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestlemania equivalent Wrestle Kingdom proves this. Less than 24 hours after the big show has happened, two of the stars from arguably the best match on the card – Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles – have handed in their notices to NJPW, and are rumoured to be WWE bound.
The two worked the penultimate match on the card with Nakamura coming out on top after wrestling for the IWGP Intercontinental Title. Styles has been wrestling without a contract (according to Dave Meltzer) and his fellow Bullet Club stablemates Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows (formerly Festus/Luke Gallows in WWE) have also handed in their notices with their contracts apparently running out very soon.
The tag team lost their IWGP Tag Team Championships last night to the team of Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma in an upset victory in what seems to signal the end of their NJPW career for now.
With WWE’s NXT brand becoming a more reputable part of the company due to big indy names signing in recent years, these wrestlers would fit fight in and be a welcome addition. Shinsuke Nakamura has all the star power to be a megastar in the west, AJ Styles can finally prove himself in the WWE and Karl/Doc could possibly reunite with Prince Devitt a.k.a Finn Balor should they sign.
With the road to Wrestlemania in the very near future, things could be shaking up – especially with the Royal Rumble around the corner.
